Medical Lymph Drainage Massage

Medical lymph drainage massage is a gentle relaxing massage technique, especially designed to move lymph fluid and improve the functioning of the lymphatic system. It is ideal for people who are recovering from surgery, have recently been ill, are carrying water (have a spongy feeling especially in the lower limbs), or need support detoxing. When your lymph system functions properly, it speeds up healing from injury or surgery, it supports your immune system functioning, and it supports detoxing.

What is Lymph?

The lymph systems is one of the critical detoxing systems of your body. It is a network of tiny veins and capillaries that run fairly close to the skin, alongside your blood circulation system. Lymph fluid bathes your cells, collecting and removing toxins and waist products, and supporting the function of your immune system. Unfortunately, this lymph system has no pump of it's own, and relies on the movements of the blood veins and arteries that run along side it to push the lymph up into the lymph nodes and out of the body through the urinary system. When the lymph system is sluggish, these debris and toxins are left bathing the cells, your immune T-cells cannot get access to the area properly, and healing and cell functions are retarded

What does medical lymph drainage do?

Sometimes your body is stressed with excess toxins, and the lymph system needs help to work more effectively. The spongy feeling, when you push on the feet for instance, is a clear sign that your lymph system is not working correctly. A medical lymph drainage massage works to support the functioning of this system by moving the lymph (acting as the pump it does not have).  The result is the clearing of  toxins and debris away from the tissues and out of the body.

What else can you do to support the lymph system?

You can help by ensuring that you drink enough water, and if possible, doing sufficient some brisk walking or other exercise to get the blood system pumping, which in turn pumps the lymph lying alongside.

Cloud 9 Lymph drainage

Here at Cloud 9, our lymph drainage expert is Vivian Van Den Burg. She is a trained physical therapist, who worked for several years in post surgery recovery units in Germany. She has 16 years experience in massage and healing.

Traditionally there are 2 different styles of Lymph Drainage massage available on the market. Here at Cloud 9 we use the more gentle technique as the lymph is a very delicate fine system and we believe that this technique is both more comfortable and safer.
